Audio Reactive Particles
Marking the final release in electronic artist Halina Rice’s New Worlds series, Sunken Suns is a multi-format visual campaign centered around themes of dissolution and spatial fragmentation. The project required a cohesive procedural aesthetic that could bridge the track's heavy bass and layered synths with high-resolution visual outputs for both the album cover and promotional press materials.
The core cover artwork features five planetary spheres arranged in an octahedral lattice, gradually disintegrating into dynamic particle trails. Built entirely in TouchDesigner, the generative composition utilizes advanced point clouds and particle physics to simulate structural decay and dispersion. This procedural system is heavily audio-reactive; the track's bass kicks are mapped directly to the particle behavior, embedding the sonic data into the physical movement of the visual.
To expand this procedural language into the release's promotional campaign, a creative portrait of the artist was developed. Utilizing an iPhone’s LiDAR sensor, a 3D scan of Rice’s face was captured to generate dense point cloud data. The identical audio-reactive particle techniques were then applied to this digital scan, establishing a seamless aesthetic link between the abstract cover art and the artist's digital identity. The result is a unified, computationally driven campaign that scales across print and motion.
