Retail X Report 2022

For RetailX’s 2022 editorial suite—including both their Ranking Reports and E-commerce Country Reports—I developed a generative design system using NodeBox, a node-based creative coding tool. The challenge was to produce unique, visually engaging cover artworks for over 20 reports spanning various sectors and regions, while maintaining a unified design language. For the Ranking Reports, the direction leaned toward soft, playful forms to reflect optimism in the post-COVID landscape. The procedural structure enabled rapid iterations, animation for web, and scalable outputs for print.

For the Country Reports, the brief required incorporating country-specific maps into each cover. Traditional methods would have made this a labor-intensive task. Instead, I built a workflow where SVG maps were dynamically transformed into animated visual forms. This algorithmic approach significantly reduced production time while ensuring consistency across the series.

All outputs were exported as vectors, enabling flexible use across formats. Final compositions were assembled in Illustrator and After Effects, with animations tailored for digital promotion. The project highlights how procedural design can solve scale-based challenges in editorial design, while also enabling rich visual storytelling.
