Elision Cover Art

For Halina Rice’s 2022 album Elision, released via Injazero Records, I created the cover artwork using a generative design workflow built in TouchDesigner, a real-time visual programming environment. The album spans a wide sonic palette—from experimental textures to intricate IDM structures—and the visual direction aimed to reflect this diversity through abstract, evolving forms.

The entire artwork was generated procedurally, allowing complex visual elements to emerge from algorithmic rules rather than manual illustration. This method offered flexibility in exploring variations and tightly aligning the final output with the audio’s tone and structure. Shapes and visual rhythms were designed to echo the layered, often unpredictable nature of the music, creating a sense of movement even in a static frame.

The generative process also enabled outputs suitable for animation and live visual extensions, although the primary use was for the album’s static cover. By leveraging procedural tools, the project delivered a cohesive yet dynamic visual identity that captures the eclectic and immersive quality of the album’s sound.
