Fracture Visualizer
Developed as part of Halina Rice’s 2022 album, Elision, the visualizer for the track "Fracture" investigates the relationship between minimal ambient soundscapes and restrained generative motion. The track’s composition, centered around layered synths and a subdued structure, informed a visual strategy based on spatial economy and harmonic motion. A system of floating cubes, built procedurally in TouchDesigner, served as the primary visual motif. These elements were programmed to respond to the envelope and dynamics of the audio input, particularly the rolling synth tones and bass pulses.
Lighting was a key parameter in the design process, with each cube acting as a volumetric container for light diffusion. This allowed the visual atmosphere to reflect the track’s warmth and emotional tone without overwhelming the auditory experience. Scene transitions and anticipatory motion were calibrated to coincide with compositional shifts in the music, contributing to a cohesive audiovisual narrative.
The project was completed under a tight production timeline, leveraging TouchDesigner’s real-time rendering capabilities and composited in After Effects for final delivery.
