New Worlds 360
This project is part of an ongoing research-led collaboration with electronic music artist Halina Rice, focusing on the intersection of immersive audio-visual performance and spatial perception. Developed for the New Worlds Immersive concert at The Old Market in Brighton, the visual system was designed to complement an L-ISA spatial audio setup, which enabled dynamic sound movement across a 360-degree environment.
Presented in a compact 123 m² venue with 5-meter-tall projection surfaces on all sides, the performance placed the artist at the center with the audience encircling the space. This format required a visual approach that not only responded to the motion of sound but also expanded the perceived space beyond the screen boundaries.
The visuals were created using open-source 3D scan datasets and spherical photography, abstracted into generative environments. Built primarily in TouchDesigner and composited in After Effects, the content used techniques like point cloud rendering and depth modulation to echo the intricacy of the music. Particular emphasis was placed on the feeling of fluidity, transformation, and non-linearity—qualities present in both the sound design and visual structure. This project remains a foundation for further inquiry into how spatialized media can enhance sensory immersion in live music experiences.
