Lee-Ding The Beat
Lee-ding the Beat is an interactive AR installation inspired by Dance Dance Revolution, developed for LKY: The Experience in Singapore and produced by creative agency Serial Communication. The experience reimagines iconic poses of Lee Kuan Yew as motion prompts, inviting users to engage with history through embodied play.
As a creative technologist, I was responsible for designing and implementing core interaction systems—primarily the integration of real-time pose detection (using ML5.js) with a responsive AR overlay built in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and p5.js. I developed the logic for an AR garland that activates dynamically when users match prompted poses.
Key challenges included designing a hands-free UX suitable for a public setting, ensuring minimal onboarding friction, and building robust safeguards for edge cases (e.g., user drop-in/drop-out, multi-user scenarios). The project required balancing computational performance with responsiveness, optimizing for both visual clarity and real-time feedback across varying user behaviors.
