Elision Visualizer

“Elision,” the title track from Halina Rice’s 2022 album released via Injazero Records, presented a distinct visual design opportunity within the context of an otherwise rhythm-forward IDM album. The track’s ambient and reflective qualities required a visual approach that emphasized texture, mood, and gradual transformation rather than beat-based synchronization.

Developed as both a visualizer and a live performance visual, the piece was constructed using TouchDesigner, a node-based real-time programming environment. The visual framework was based on slow-moving, high-resolution stock footage sequences that served as spatial and tonal anchors. These were processed with generative visual effects that included feedback loops, displacement mapping, and color remapping techniques. The transformation parameters were modulated using real-time audio analysis, enabling the visuals to shift responsively with the dynamics of the music.

The result is a layered visual composition that translates the track’s emotive depth into a sequence of evolving frames, capturing subtle motion, atmosphere, and contrast. The workflow emphasizes computational efficiency and reproducibility, making it suitable for both rendered video formats and real-time AV contexts.
