Breaks Cover Art

Breaks is the third track in Halina Rice’s New Worlds project, accompanied by a generative visual that mirrors its high-tempo, IDM-inspired sound. The animation features isometric cubes shifting rapidly between clustered formations, colliding and reorganizing in response to the track’s rhythmic complexity. A bold, vibrant color palette reinforces the energy and motion of the piece.

The visual was created using NodeBox, a node-based creative coding tool. By constructing a rule-based generative system, the forms and transitions could be precisely tuned while still allowing for variation, resulting in visuals that are both controlled and dynamic.

A creative portrait of Halina Rice was also developed for the release. The original photo by Michael Robert Williams was processed using a custom Processing script that transformed the image’s color data into abstract structures. This technique extended the generative approach to portraiture, aligning with the visual language of the release. The processed image was featured in press materials and digital campaigns, continuing the series’ exploration of code-based design across multiple media.
