Immersive Audio Visual Show

Developed as part of an ongoing research-led collaboration with electronic music artist Halina Rice, this project explores the intersection of immersive audio-visual performance and spatial perception. Designed specifically for the New Worlds Immersive concert at The Old Market in Brighton, the visual system was built to complement an L-ISA spatial audio setup, which allowed both sound and generative imagery to move dynamically across a fully 360-degree environment.

The physical installation was housed in a compact 123 m² venue wrapped entirely in five-meter-tall projection surfaces. With the artist positioned at the center and the audience encircling the space, the traditional frontal stage dynamic was completely dismantled. This required a spatialized visual approach that did more than just react to the audio; it needed to visually expand the physical dimensions of the room, pushing the perceived environment far beyond the boundaries of the projection screens to create a boundless digital volume.

To achieve this spatial illusion, the visual content was constructed by abstracting open-source 3D scan datasets and spherical photography into generative environments. Programmed primarily in TouchDesigner, the system utilized point cloud rendering and precise depth modulation to echo the sonic intricacies of the performance. By emphasizing transformation and non-linear movement, the visuals worked in tandem with the spatialized audio to create a deeply cohesive, multi-sensory space. The project serves as a foundational blueprint for how spatialized media can fundamentally alter sensory immersion in live, physical music experiences.
