Spheres Cover Art
This animated cover artwork was created for Halina Rice’s 2020 single “Spheres”, the first release in her New Worlds series—a collection where each track is paired with a distinct virtual environment. As the pilot piece, Spheres set the tone for the visual identity of the series. The cover draws from the visual language of 70s and 80s electronic music artwork, combining minimal geometric motifs with a digital aesthetic that evokes piano roll visualizations from modern DAWs.
The artwork was generated programmatically using Processing, a Java-based open-source creative coding framework. The visual logic fractured circular forms into modular, grid-based components, echoing themes of rhythm, signal flow, and spatial modulation. Although delivered as an animated clip, the underlying system was designed with real-time responsiveness in mind, opening up possibilities for future applications in interactive performance or installation contexts.
The project investigates how code-driven visuals can create emotionally resonant, musically-aligned imagery while maintaining extensibility for live or generative formats. It serves as both a design artifact and a performative tool, bridging static media and dynamic systems.
