Procedurally Generated Carpet Designs
CarpetDiem is a generative art series by new media artist Orkhan Mammadov that reinterprets the intricate symmetry of Persian carpets through code. Built using p5.js, each piece emerges from a recursive fractal system that evolves across the canvas, forming richly detailed, algorithmic compositions.
As the creative developer, I helped shape the project from concept to execution—designing a generative structure that balanced variation, harmony, and visual depth. Through iterative exploration, we landed on a fractal-based approach that allowed for infinite complexity with minimal input, echoing the spirit of traditional craftsmanship in a digital form.
CarpetDiem has been exhibited internationally as a fusion of cultural heritage and generative aesthetics.
